On August 3, 2005, the Mozilla Foundation announced the creation of Mozilla Corporation, described as "a taxable subsidiary that serves the non-profit, public benefit goals of its parent, the Mozilla Foundation, and that will be responsible for product development, marketing and distribution of Mozilla products."^[7] It also handles relationships with businesses, many of which generate income. Unlike the Mozilla Foundation, the Mozilla Corporation is a tax-paying entity, which gives it much greater freedom in the revenue and business activities it can pursue. From 2004 to 2014, the majority of revenue came from a deal with Google, which was the default search engine in the Firefox web browser. In November 2014, Mozilla signed a five-year partnership with Yahoo,^[8] making Yahoo Search the default search engine for Firefox in the US. Yandex Search is the default for Firefox in Russia and Baidu continues its role as the default in China.

Android and Google

initially developed by Android, Inc., which Google bought in 2005, Android was unveiled in 2007, along with the founding of the Open Handset Alliance[1] – a consortium of hardware, software, and telecommunication companies devoted to advancing open standards for mobile devices."

The Android platform as released under Apache 2.0 License[2], attributing the copyright to Android Open Source project[3]. The license granted by Apache Foundation[4] allow the software usage and distribution of resources by the copyright owner (i.e. Android Open Source Project).

According to this website,[5] the software is provided without warranty and the software author (Google, Android Handset Alliance, the community, etc) and the license owner (Android Open Source Project) cannot be held liability for damages. It also explicitly states that it does not grant you any rights in the trademarks or other marks of contributors.

So, besides you may use, modify, redistributed, sublicense, or privately use the source code, you cannot use Android trademark without being compliant to Google policy[6].

And, besides all Open Handset Alliance greatly contributes to Android progress, Google owns the copyright to the open source project. Otherwise Oracle would have sued OHA for copyright and patent claims[7].
